Becoming An Observer
Many of our members go onto being an Observer once they have passed the Advanced test. This is a benefit to you the Observer because it keeps your own skills at a high level, but also benefits the group since we need enough Observers to handle new Associates joining.
Observers are accredited by an external examiner to IMI standards.
To be an Observer your own driving skills need to be at a very high level, and you need deep knowledge of the theory surrounding advanced driving. You also need to demonstrate that you can pass-on these skills to Associates, many of whom are nervous and inexperienced. However, all of this should be well within your capabilities if you have passed the Advanced test.
If you are interested in becoming an Observer, you can discuss this with any of us, either during your initial course or afterwards.
The training process is straightforward: You will do some drives sitting in the back while an experienced Observer works with the Associate; then some drives with you handling the Associate's session while the experienced Observer sits in the back. There is no set time or number of drives, you will be accredited when you and the group feel you are ready.
